Freezer Paper Valentine bags

Supplies

  • Small tote bag or muslin favor pouch
  • Small sponge tipped paint brushes (3-4)
  • Multi-surface acrylic craft paint (I used Martha Stewart in habanero, bubblegum, gold & smoky quartz)
  • A piece of cardboard (cut to fit inside the bag you will be painting to prevent bleed through)
  • Freezer paper stencil *
  • Hot iron

Directions:

Iron your freezer paper stencil to your bag (make sure that the matte side of the paper is facing UP) Take time to REALLY iron it on good, paying special attention to corners. If you don’t get the stencil on there good, you will get bleed through…and nobody wants that!

A quick note about the stencil:  I used my Silhoutte machine to cut my freezer paper stencil. However, you could use an X-acto knife,  paper punches or other cutting machines to create your stencil. Keep in mind that the stencil will be placed glossy side down, so if you are typing words, be sure they running left to right on the matte side of the freezer paper. Simple fonts are best. Their lines come out really clean once the stencil is removed. I used Bebas ChunkFive for my fonts. Both are FREE to download!

Insert your piece of cardboard and start painting in your stencil using one of your sponge tipped paint brushes.YOU DO NOT NEED MUCH PAINT. It is better to start out with a little bit on your brush and add more as needed. Also, I started in the middle and worked my way out to the edges. I learned from trial and error it is best not to have a lot of paint on your brush when painting in the edges (as too much paint causes bleed through) With some stencils, I found blotting the paint on worked better then painting in stokes.
